Trump told TMZ that he is contacting the FBI to investigate whether the account is legit and the threat to be taken seriously. Unnamed sources had also confirmed to ABC News that Trump has indeed contacted FBI’s office in Manhattan on Monday.
Trump said he is not afraid. “I’m fighting for much more than myself. I’m fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can’t be intimidated. It’s too important,” Trump said in a statement obtained by TMZ.
El Chapo lurks under the radar
The U.S. government had kept warning Mexico that El Chapo will escape one day, according to a retired federal agent who has spoken with ABC News under the condition of anonymity.
“There was always chatter that there was going to be a breakout plan,” the source told ABC News.
The retired agent said the U.S. had been consistent on giving the Mexican government credible intelligence information of El Chapo’s looming escapee. However, this was not enough for the Mexican government to prevent the escape of the world’s most dangerous drug lord.
The source said he was not surprised about the escape. He said El Chapo will try to stay under the radar until he gained full control of his drug cartels once again.
“My guess is he will go dark, travel very light for speed, and head to the safety of the Sinaloa mountains as soon as possible,” the source told ABC News.
