A 35-year-old driver named Brian Jones ran his car into a Livermore building on Saturday night, killing a 40-year-old woman and her 14-month-old daughter. The suspect, under the influence of alcohol, lost control while steering. Two other children were also injured.
Investigation is underway. Names of the victims are kept hidden. The driver was arrested, and he was charged with suspicions of vulgar vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was held at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and issued a bail of $350,000 on Sunday, according to SF Gate.
Livermore police officer Ryan Sanchez informed that the collision occurred around 6:51 p.m., almost an hour after Jones arrived at an apartment complex at 975 Murrieta Blvd for the Livermore Wine Country Festival.
Police claimed that the intoxicated Jones hit the woman and the daughter while they were walking on a pathway near the complex. Sanchez said both died on the spot.
Two boys aged 6 and 7 were hit by debris from the vehicle. They sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
Jones suffered injuries and was also treated in a hospital. Alcohol traces found in his blood sample was 0.13 percent, five percent more than the standard limit, 0.08 percent. The Chevrolet Corvette was damaged following the massive impact.
Residents of the building expressed grief over the deaths.
