Transgenders appeared to have received support from Donald Trump when he emphasized that they should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate.”
In an interview with NBC’s “Today” show at the Rockefeller Center in Manhattan on Thursday, the 69-year-old politician finally aired his stand on the issue – for transgenders to use any bathroom they would like – that many Republicans reportedly do not agree with.
As reported by New York Times, the Republican presidential front-runner’s statement was in response to the question relative to the newly-signed North Carolina bill that requires anyone to use the bathroom according to his or her biological sex.
“North Carolina did something — it was very strong — and they’re paying a big price,” Donald Trump pointed out. “And there’s a lot of problems. And I heard — one of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday saying, leave it the way it is, right now.”
The North Carolina bill signed by the governor last month bans all local anti-discrimination policies as well.
Considering his take on the issue, the father of fashion designer Ivanka Trump pointed out that this is also applicable in the Trump-owned establishments such as in the Trump Tower in New York.
When prodded to further clarify his point, Donald Trump was then asked if he would gladly usher famous transgender Caitlyn Jenner to the bathroom she would prefer once she is in the Trump Tower, he added by saying, “That is correct.”
He even added that “There’s a big move to create new bathrooms” for the transgender.
“First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way,” he said. “It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is.”
Meanwhile, when asked if he has transgender employees, he commented, “I probably do.”
In the meantime, Today reported that Donald Trump, once elected as the next president of the United States, would raise the taxes imposed on rich people.
