The trailer as shown in a report by Us Magazine featured Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) upside down due to a car accident and a man’s voice telling him to forget everything that he think he knows.
Then the voice of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) refers to Strange, “You’re a man looking at the world through a keyhole.” She tells him that his work changed thousands of lives but he does not know much as there are other ways to save lives. Towards the end of the trailer, Strange pleads, “Teach me,” on his knees.
Marvel published the comic book “Doctor Strange,” which was created in the 1960’s by artist Steve Ditko together with the famous comic book writer-editor Stan Lee. It was about a surgeon named Dr. Stephen Strange who had a car accident from which both of his hands were injured. This prevented him from performing his task as a surgeon, so he searched for a cure and met the Ancient One who taught him mystical arts.
The surgeon-turned-sorcerer has been a favorite of comic book readers and superhero fanatics since then.
In a report from Entertainment Weekly, the film’s director Scott Derrickson expressed his interest in the creative visuals of the comic book.
“I was always interested in the extreme mind- bending visuals of the comics,” he said. He also added that his interest in the visuals were from the comics as it has not been seen in any movies.
“A lot of that goes back to the Ditko artwork and all that 60’s craziness you see in the comics,” he explained.
Marvel studio’s president, Kevin Feige, said that the scene which Dr. Strange and the Ancient One meet and the sequences from which he has been introduced to different dimensions, which Marvel refers to as “multiverse,” might be the factor that sets the movie apart from other films.
“Doctor Strange” will be released in theaters on November 4.
