Pistons asked for 24 additional hours to evaluate Donatas Motiejunas’ back injury. But Motiejunas is not in condition to play for Pistons. Detroit has rescinded trade.

Power forward Motiejunas failed a physical test on Monday due to his back sore, revealed sources. Pistons immediately voided the trade, which included swap of a 2016 first-round pick with the Rockets.

Motiejunas now returns to the Rockets along with Marcus Thornton. Joel Anthony was also traded to the Rockets by the Pistons, who was again traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Nigerian forward Chukwudiebere Maduabum, comes back to Detroit, according to the ABC 7.

The NBA granted the teams time till 6 p.m. ET Monday to finalize the deal, as reported by Morning News USA on Monday.

Motiejunas underwent a back surgery last season to recover from injury. He featured in 14 games for the Rockets in 15-16 after making his season debut on December 6. He last played on December 31, when he could only manage 6 minutes.

The Rockets were eyeing for first-round trade picks before the deadline, but Motiejunas’ fitness failed them in this trade.

One of the guys that was with him in Houston – it’s a guy I know – likened it to what (J.J.) Redick had. Said there’ll be occasional flare-ups, which J.J. had a little bit this year. But for the most part, OK now. If that’s the case, you’re going to live with a guy having to miss three or four games every once in a while to get a guy of his talent,” Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy said last week to reporters, according to NBA.
