While speaking with Soompi, KBS drama department head Jung Sung Ho revealed that it would be their way to give back to their fans.
“We want to repay viewers with the next ‘Descendants of the Sun,’” Jung shared. “We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff, and actors.”
“The drama was more than a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu,” the network executive added. “KBS will strive to produce a second “Descendants of the Sun” to meet expectations and repay viewers.”
When asked about the planned release date of “Descendants of the Sun” sequel, Jung had this to say, “We plan to launch a 2017 ‘Descendants of the Sun’ project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team.”
It was unclear, though, if the upcoming project would be a second season or a different story based on the original military-themed series.
“We have to keep discussing whether it will be a story of a soldier or not,” Jung further dished. “‘Descendants of the Sun’ was this year’s top drama and greatly contributed to the Hallyu wave, and we mean that we wish to work on a project that will follow it closely.”
In the meantime, “DOTS” star Song Joong-ki’s camp warned about the rumored fans event that he is reportedly doing, Yonhap News reported.
Blossom Entertainment, the management of the 30-year-old South Korean actor, shared that there is no truth to reports saying that he is set to visit Singapore or Malaysia during his Asian tour. Rather, he is only meeting his fans in Bangkok, Beijing, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chengdu and Taipei.
Keep posted for more updates about the “Descendants of the Sun” sequel and if Song Joong-ki and rumored girlfriend Song Hye-kyo would still be part of it!
