“Descendants of the Sun” season 2 is reportedly confirmed. The head of KBS drama department himself dished out the details of this second season.
According to a report from Soompi, “Descendants of the Sun” 2 may likely to happen following KBS’s drama department head Jung Sung Ho’s statement that they will strive to give back to viewers by having a season 2.
“We want to repay viewers with the next ‘Descendants of the Sun,’” he said. “We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff, and actors. The drama was more than a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu. KBS will strive to produce a second “Descendants of the Sun” to meet expectations and repay viewers.”
The head revealed that they plan to release “Descendants of the Sun” season 2 to in 2017 after they have come up with concrete plans on cast and the production team.
Despite reports that a second season for the hit drama series may be a “heavy burden,” Jung Sung Ho said that they are still in discussions if the story will involve a soldier or not.
“‘Descendants of the Sun’ was this year’s top drama and greatly contributed to the Hallyu wave, and we mean that we wish to work on a project that will follow it closely,” he noted. “For the time being, we plan to proceed with a variety of projects with a 2017 broadcast goal.”
Rumors have it that “Descendants of the Sun 2” will likely be impossible when co-writer Kim Eun Sook earlier revealed that he no longer have to have a season 2 for the story.
“I have no plans for a second season,” he said. “I’ve already told the story I wanted to tell.”
Aside from this issue, it is also speculated that if there really is “Descendants of the Sun 2,” the cast may not even include Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki. Reports said that the main cast members cannot commit for the show due to conflict of schedule.
