Did Song Joong Ki snub “Descendants of the Sun 2” for another TV project? While there have been no official announcement yet about the sequel of the highly-successful South Korean military drama TV series, different reports have offered opposing rumors.
Some have been saying that its lead stars, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, have already started filming for the sequel. Others have been insinuating that they will no longer be part of the show.
While citing a report from My Daily, All Kpop revealed that the 31-year-old actor will be appearing in a new South Korean TV program. Could this be the reason why some media outlets have speculated about his exit from “Descendants of the Sun 2”?
According to the report, Song Hye Kyo’s leading man in the original run of “DOTS” will appear via a cameo role for the upcoming tvN’s soap “Man to Man.” Written by Kim Won Suk, also a writer for the hit KBS drama that introduced the “Song-Song” love team, “Man to Man” will feature the actor as a doctor named Yeo Woon Kwang.
It has been rumored that the new show’s camera will officially start rolling by November this year. Will this be enough reason for Song Joong Ki to drop Descendants of the Sun 2?
Back in April, Soompi reported that the highly-anticipated sequel of the drama series will have a different plot. It is reportedly the production team’s way of giving back to their avid audience.
“KBS will strive to produce a second “Descendants of the Sun” to meet expectations and repay viewers,” Jung Sung Ho shared then. “We plan to launch a 2017 ‘Descendants of the Sun’ project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team.”
He also dished that based on his discussion with writer Kim Eun Suk, their team is still unsure of how they will present Descendants of the Sun 2. It will be a continuation of the original story or a spin-off of the previous one.
