Ever since the Denver Nuggets traded away Carmelo Anthony in 2011, they never quite regained their elite status in the Western Conference. The team has had high-quality players, but the lack of a true superstar has prevented them from reaching the playoffs three seasons in a row.
Fast-forward into 2016, the Nuggets still have an abundance of first-rate pieces. They range from young prospects and budding all-stars to reliable role players. Despite the team’s surplus of talent, no one really expects the Nuggets to be competitive next season.
Ryan McCabe of Nugg Love has formulated a trade plan that would turn the Nuggets into an instant super team. For that to happen, the Nuggets would need the full cooperation of the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
In the blockbuster four-team trade, the Nuggets would get DeMarcus Cousins, Blake Griffin and Ricky Rubio. All three players have emerged in trade rumors as of late. They could be moved soon, and the Nuggets have the pieces to collect all three.
The Kings would receive Emmanuel Mudiay, Nikola Jokic, Jusuf Nurkic and Denver’s 2017 first-round pick. The Clippers would get Kenneth Faried, Wilson Chandler, Will Barton and Minnesota’s 2017 first-round pick. Lastly, the Timberwolves would acquire Skal Labissiere, Sacramento’s 2017 first-round pick and Denver’s other 2017 first-round pick.
McCabe noted that all four teams would obtain pieces that would improve their current standing in the NBA. Of course, some improvements would be more immediate than others. Due to their individual issues and the influx of new talent to their team, Cousins, Griffin and Rubio are no longer deemed “untouchables.”
Hoops Habit indicated that Cousins have drawn interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz and Milwaukee Bucks. Clipper Holics reported that the Boston Celtics are keeping a close eye on Griffin. Meanwhile, Rubio might end up in Philadelphia, Houston, or Milwaukee when all is said and done, as per CBS Sports.
