The prosecutor stated that the man has been charged with second-degree murder. According to CBS Local, 23-year-old Cullen was brought to court for the murder charge on Thursday. The prosecution alleged that he killed his 63-year-old mother Elizabeth Cullen.
A bail was set at $5 million cash or $8 million bond. On Wednesday, the corpse of Elizabeth Cullen was discovered outside her home on White Hill Road in Cold Spring Harbor. The prosecutor divulged that the Lloyd Harbor man admitted, in “chilling detail,” that he committed the act. He said he dragged his mother to the family swimming pool at the back of the house. He then drowned her after they had an argument over him not taking his medication.
According to sources, Cullen had no criminal record. After drowning his mother, he hid the body in a shed and covered it with a dinghy. After committing the crime, the 23-year-old took a train to Manhattan and met his sister, to whom he confessed, as reported by Patch.
“Any murder that we deal with has certain aspects of it. This is a son who killed his mother and the way he killed her, the way he describes how it was done, was chilling,” Robert Biancavilla, Assistant District Attorney, said.
“He said she struggled violently and he was very surprised that a woman of her stature could struggle as much as she did. He waited until she stopped moving and then carried the body out of the pool.”
Police said they had responded to a White Hill Road home at 4 p.m. to check on the condition of Elizabeth. While they were at the Cullen’s residence processing the crime scene, Denis showed up and was immediately arrested.
