Demi Lovato Defends ‘Cool For The Summer,’ Tweets It Sounds Nothing Like ‘I Kissed A Girl’
Demi Lovato is back with her latest single release “Cool For The Summer.” The “Nightingale” singer has unveiled her new song at a fan event organized by Z100 (WHTZ-FM) at New York on Wednesday. Right after playing the song live, she decided to cool off in a nearby pool with her fans.
Lovato, who attended the function in ripped denim, coupled with fishnet thigh-highs and black heels, ripped through her performance. As the song reached its end, Lovato jumped into the pool in front of the stage, causing fans to shriek with excitement.
The cooling off did not last for more than a few minutes and soon Lovato was seen escorted out of the pool wrapped in a pink bathrobe.
The highly anticipated release sparked fans’ excitement but soon after, some not-so-pleasant news for Demi was spread around.
The 22-year-old singer had not even finished sharing her excitement on her social networking sites when reports from people saying the single sounded like a mixture of Jessie J’s “Domino” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” struck her.
Many fans took to Twitter. Some even went to the extent of saying “Cool For The Summer” is a mash-up of “I Kissed A Girl” and “Domino.”
Demi could not afford to take the controversy lightly, as she immediately responded to an article posted by Entertainment Tonight. She tweeted the song “sounds nothing like it.”
The young celebrity did not let the controversy put her down and continued posting snaps on both Twitter and Instagram, as “Cool For The Summer” took the number one spot in Brazil in just 35 minutes after its release.
The Disney Channel star also thanked her fans and tweeted about the upcoming video of the single.
To celebrate the release of “Cool For The Summer,” Lovato will host more fan events across the U.S. by the end of this week.
