Days Gone aims to recreate the magic and box-office appeal of The Last of Us. A brief demo of the post-apocalyptic action-adventure game was shown at E3 2016, and fans have been raving about it ever since. Here’s what we know so far about Sony’s upcoming PS4 title.
‘Days Gone’ Narrative
SIE Bend Studio director Christopher Reese stressed that the game will have a very strong and compelling narrative. Days Gone tells the story of drifter and bounty hunter Deacon St. John, as he ponders about his existence amidst a global zombie infection.
Days Gone is set in the High Desert of the Pacific Northwest, two years after a terrible virus turned the area into a bleak and eerie wasteland. The Bitbag pointed out that the game will be an emotional journey for gamers, as they follow Deacon’s tragic backstory and how he deals with his grief while struggling to stay alive.
‘Days Gone’ Development
According to Gaming Bolt, SIE Bend Studio utilized the Unreal Engine 4 game development tool in prototyping Days Gone. This allowed developers to test out multiple gameplay possibilities without using too much resources. The tool provided developers with much needed flexibility in generating assets to reach their desired quality for the game.
‘Days Gone’ Gameplay
Days Gone is an open world action-adventure game that involves a ton of third-person shooting and item crafting. Zombies in the game are known as Freakers. There are two kinds of Freakers: Hordes and Newts.
PlayStation Blog described Hordes as clusters of fast-moving Freakers hell-bent on devouring everything in its path. Meanwhile, Newts are newly-infected Freakers who prefer sneaky hits over in-your-face attacks.
‘Days Gone’ Release Date
Days Gone is expected to launch sometime in 2017 on PlayStation 4. SIE Bend Studio said at E3 2016 that it will be revealing more details about the game in the next few months.
