David Bowie, legendary singer and songwriter, passed away today at age 69. He was battling cancer for the last 18 months. David Bowie’s death came as a shocker to fans.


The Facebook page of the star confirmed the news. The statement on the page reads, “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief,”

Duncan Jones, the director of “Moon” who happens to be the son of the singer, also confirmed the news. His publicist also reported the same. Many fans did not even know that the artist was battling cancer for so long.

The David Bowie’s death is an end to an era of music he had been part of. His musical career spanned 40 years. In 2003, he went away from the spotlight. While people thought he had stepped back forever, he returned with a new album “The Next Day.”

“The Next Day” was his 24th studio album. His most recent album was “Blackstar” released days before David Bowie’s death. It’s already topping charts in many countries.

David had several bestsellers throughout his career. He was fighting cancer secretly. He was rarely seen performing in the last few months. David Bowie’s death is surely a big loss to the music industry.
