Walter DaSilva, a father from New Bedford, was charged for the July 3rd murder of his 19-year-old daughter, Sabrina DaSilva.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III and New Bedford Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro announced that a criminal complaint has been made, which officially charged the father. Walter DaSilva is accused of gunning his daughter down in an apartment complex parking lot. The 19-year-old was a college student and a young mother.
“This homicide case is particularly chilling because it involves a father being accused of killing his own daughter,” said Thomas M. Quinn III in a statement.
“We look forward to prosecuting this defendant in court for this very disturbing case.”
The criminal complaint was filed in New Bedford District Court. It officially charges the 45-year-old father with murder, carrying an illegal firearm, and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm. Previously, he used to live in Danbury, CT. He was arrested around noon last Friday by U.S. Marshalls in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Since Walter had an outstanding probation warrant out of Middlesex County, he was arrested as a fugitive from justice. The probation warrant was connected to an assault in the town of Weston in 2002.
The current charges on the father alleged that he shot Sabrina nine times resulting to her death. Boston Globe stated that Sabrina was heading home after she bought juice for her toddler daughter at the grocery store.
Sabrina’s sister wrote on a Go Fund Me site that the shooter was wearing a mask when he gunned down Sabrina.
“She was fatally shot 9 times by a man with a mask while she was taking groceries out of her car. This was unexpected because she was a good girl that was not involved in any type of trouble or wrong doing.”
According to Sabrina’s mother, Walter was never able to control his anger, which makes him extremely violent, possessive, abusive and obsessive. Law enforcement authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the murder.
