The drama around Olympian Ryan Lochte is still on and he almost decided to quit following the humiliation the star swimmer had to face on the show when two men stormed onto the stage and attempted to attack him. However, his partner on Dancing With The Stars Season 23, Cheryl Burke managed to convince him to not give up.
When that happened, I thought it was part of the show,” Lochte, 32, was quoted as saying by Entertainment Tonight. “I was like, ‘Alright guys, that’s really not funny and then I realized it was for real and I was just in shock.”
He added, “And with mom being in the stands, she saw her son go through that and then Cheryl … I didn’t want that for anyone, so after that happened, I was like, ‘I’m just going to quit. I don’t want this for the show.’ I was just going to hang it up, but then talking with [Burke] and talking with my family, they really stuck behind me and said, ‘You got to keep doing this. You’re a fighter. You don’t quit.’”
Lochte also did not appear very happy while he was spotted leaving the rehearsals last week. According to a report by the Radar Online, Lochte and Cheryl have been fighting since he is not putting in the same effort as she is.
“Ryan and Cheryl have been fighting because it seems like Ryan is not putting in the same effort that Cheryl is,” said a source close to the production. “It is almost as if he seems defeated already. Like he’s given up.”
Burke, 32, was earlier criticised for leaving the show to be on another reality show on NBC. But after that show flopped, she returned on DWTS. According to the insider, Burke’s only aim at present is to win the competition.
It was an unpleasant start for Lochte when two protesters got onto the stage and started shouting at the camera after his performance on Dancing With The Stars Season 23 premiere. The men were interrupted by the security guards and were later taken into custody on charges of misdemeanour trespassing.
