What's This?

On Tuesday’s episode of the American talk show “The Real,” the American entrepreneur and actor Damon Dash opened up about the death of Aaliyah. The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records claimed that if he was with Aaliyah on that fateful day, the American singer and actress would still be alive.

Dash stated, “Well, there is no chance that if I was there, we would have been on that plane. You know what I’m saying?” The actor added, “So, it would have never happened that way.”

As stated by E Online, Dash revealed on the talk show that the plane Aaliyah boarded was not safe. Unfortunately, Dash couldn’t come along with his girlfriend in the Bahamas because had important things to work out in New York during that time. The Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder said he was already against Aaliyah making the shoot when he knew that it will be done in Bahamas. During the last phone conversation of Dash with Aaliyah, the singer even said that she had a bad feeling about the plane. Unfortunately, Aaliyah doesn’t have a choice but to take the flight for the video shoot.

Even though he believes he could have changed things, Dash however, does not want to question why the tragedy happened. He stated that, “But you know, um, everything happens for a reason.”

Prior to this interview, Dash revealed that Aaliyah’s death transformed him into an “animal.” In a clip for VH1’s “Family Therapy With Dr. Jenn,” he said, ““I lost my girl, a couple years back, Aaliyah in a plane crash. I wasn’t expecting that and also my mother died and at the time my father wasn’t in my life, the only person that took care of me was my mom.” He added, “So I was always afraid that she was going to die and then my worst nightmare happened, she died. You know, everything that scared me is losing people I love and everyone that I really love, as it relates to females, I’ve lost. So what it’s made me be is the animal that I am because I don’t want to sit down and think about the things that are hurting me but you know…”

On August 25, 2001, the “Are You That Somebody” hitmaker along with others on the flight, died in a plane crash shortly after takeoff. Aaliyah was 22 years old during the time of her untimely passing. After her passing, Aaliyah’s music continued to thrive and achieve commercial success, garnering several posthumous releases.
