The United Men’s Soccer National Team will look to book a spot in the final four of Copa América Centenario when they collide with Ecuador. The USMNT vs Ecuador match is scheduled on Thursday night at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, where the host will be boosted by their hometown crowd.
The USMNT are oozing with confidence heading into the match after finishing on top of Copa América Centenario Group A. They started on the wrong foot with a 2-0 loss to Colombia in their opener. But they regrouped and bounced back with 4-0 win over Costa Rica and 1-0 victory over Paraguay — enough to win the group on goal difference over Colombia.
USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann will once again lean on his veterans, led by Clint Dempsey, who has already scored two goals and assisted in two more strikes for his team in the tournament. Bobby Wood is also expected to wreak havoc, while Brad Guzan will try to have another clean sheet for the third consecutive match.
On the other hand, Ecuador will look to stun the home crowd on Thursday night. Enner Valencia was in superb form during the group stage, tallying two goals and two assists, while Christian Noboa and Antonio Valencia added one apiece, with latter also firing an assist for Ecuador.
Ecuador midfielder Carlos Gruezo is expecting a tough match against the USMNT, who escaped with a 1-0 win in their recent friendly in May. “We all know what happened to us when we played against them in Dallas. You have to be mentally prepared and not allow mistakes,” he told reporters via ESPN.
