Cisco Buys Metacloud
Cisco has acquired California-based Metacloud for an undisclosed amount. The networking solutions firm obviously takes the transaction as an opportunity for it to boost its strategy to develop the biggest global network of secure clouds.
This acquisition is set to be completed in the first quarter of next year. As part of the deal, all of Metacloud’s existing personnel would be absorbed by Cisco. They would soon join the Cloud Infrastructure and Managed Services unit of the company.
Metacloud is a startup business that operates its own private cloud platform. Technically, it allows its customers to function like a public cloud even inside their datacenters. The business may not brag about scale and capitalization but its technology and talent may be sufficient to turn Cisco’s head around.
In a statement, Cisco reiterated how cloud computing has significantly changes the landscape of information technology. The shift from the on-premise IT structure into hybrid IT, for instance, facilitates greater business agility as well as lower costs. A hybrid IT is a mix of private and public cloud with on-premise and various applications.
It said it believes that the technology owned by Metacloud would play an important role in letting their customers experience seamless journey into a new world of clouds. In the process, it provides choice, data governance, and flexibility.
For its part, Metacloud echoes the same sentiment. Sean Lynch, its co-founder, described Cisco as a significant contributor and supporter of its OpenStack community.
The startup business also revealed that its own team has also witnessed how speed and innovation comes when organizations learn to accept the real hybrid mindset. Lynch added that Metacloud’s growing list of contented Metacloud OpenStack customers serve as a validation of its vision, product direction, and unbelievable team, coming as one to make it all happen.
This transaction is obviously a likely addition to the growing arsenal with Metacloud. This comes at a time when cloud computing continues to become more and more popular not just in the US but also around the world. Many observers think that this acquisition is a timely deal for such a big player in the sector like Cisco.
