Rapper Chris Brown was arrested following a standoff with the police at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday night. He was taken into custody in suspicion of assault.
It was been widely reported that the 27-year-old R&B singer got into problem when drugs and weapons were retrieved from his house. A former beauty queen Baylee Curran called the police claiming that the rapper had pulled a gun at her.
Rosario Herrera, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department said that Brown has been charged with a felony, and was due to be processed. Other details like when and where he was arrested and the make and caliber of the weapon are not available, New York Times reports.
But can the incident be race-related? The standoff between Chris Brown and the police spurred a lot of tweets claiming that the police was rash to act against Brown only because the complainant is a white person and the accused is black.
It can be remembered that Chris Brown showed his support to San Francisco 49ers player Colin Kaepernick on social media for not standing up for the National Anthem, Vibe reports. The 29-year-old quarterback refused to stand up when the anthem was played during a pre-season match on Friday.
It is now being speculated that Brown may have in fact got himself into trouble when he publicly defended the NFL player on social media. Kaepernick remained seated during the national anthem as a show of protest against police brutality.
The Black Lives Matter message came out loud and clear, Vibe reports. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” said Kaepernick, talking about his decision.
This is when Chris Brown also jumped to defend and applaud the player. “Proud of my brother for actually trying to be the change by setting the example!!!” wrote Brown in an Instagram message on Saturday. The player has been receiving support across social media.
Not only Chris Brown but celebs like John Legend have also come out openly in support of Colin Kaepernick, Time reports. Now whether John Legend also faces the consequences is a question only time will answer.
