Charlize Theron could have been mum about her broken romance with Sean Penn and in almost everything that concerns her private life, but in the April issue of the “WSJ” magazine, she finally opened up. She especially addressed rumors that she left Penn without a word, simply vanishing.
In the magazine’s latest issue, the 40-year-old cover girl hinted that there was no drama about their breakup, as opposed to what was being reported then.
“There is this need to sensationalize things,” she commented when asked why she and Penn broke off their engagement. “When you leave a relationship there has to be some f—ing crazy story or some crazy drama,” Theron added. “And the f—ing ghosting thing, like literally I still don’t even know what it is.”
The “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress continued by saying, “It’s just its own beast. We were in a relationship and then it didn’t work anymore. And we both decided to separate. That’s it.”
When it comes to having more children, she shared that the “Mystic River” actor was actually supportive of the idea. “When you’re with somebody and it comes to kids, you can’t bulls—,” she said. “And so I was always very honest with Sean that I wanted to have more kids. And he was very supportive.”
However, Charlize Theron clarified that there was no truth to the previous reports saying that Penn was going to adopt her son Jackson. “The stories saying that Sean was going to adopt Jackson and all of that were not true. It’s not something that happens in 18 months. You can’t do that to a child,” she explained. “So there was an understanding that I was a single mom with a very young boy who I had to put in a situation where he understood that Mommy dates but that he does not have a father, you know what I mean?”
Theron’s clarification of what went down between her and Penn is a relief to know. It can be remembered that US Magazine reported Theron “icing out” Penn, breaking things off without a word. “Charlize wasn’t responding to his calls and texts,” the source revealed at the time. “She just cut it off.” That’s quite harsh. Good thing it is not true.
Charlize Theron is set to reprise her role as Queen Ravenna in the 2016 film “The Huntsman: Winter’s War.”
