Charles Barkley Open Fires, Says WNBA’s Sparks Are Better Than NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers
With the brand new NBA season upon us, Charles Barkley is back. The hall-of-fame player, who now works with TNT as an analyst, was in rare form on Tuesday while making his predictions for the 2015-16 season. In the ultimate form of disrespect, Barkley feels that the Los Angeles Sparks are better than the Los Angeles Lakers.Advertisement
When asked about the Los Angeles Lakers, Barkley said, “The Lakers are the fourth-best team in California. They (are) lucky the (Los Angeles) Sparks aren’t playing, they’d be the fifth.” Barkley reckons that women’s basketball team Sparks, who play in the WNBA, can beat the Lakers.
Barkley also “guaranteed” that the New York Knicks will make the playoffs. “The Knicks are one of my sleeper teams,” Barkley said. “I think they will make the playoffs. I think Phil Jackson has done a good job getting good, quality players. (Kristaps) Porzingis is a young kid with some tremendous upside, but I am picking the Knicks to make the playoffs. They have actual NBA players on their squad this year, to go along with Carmelo Anthony. Robin Lopez is a legitimate player, Arron Afflalo is an NBA player, Jerian Grant is an NBA player and you’ve got Derrick Williams.
“They got actual NBA players. I’m picking the Knicks to make the playoffs. I’m guaranteeing it.”
Barkley had constantly undermined Golden State Warriors last season, despite the fact that the Dubs went on to win the NBA championship. Once again, Barkley doesn’t think too highly of the Warriors, picking the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the Western Conference. “They (OKC) got everything,” Barkley said. “I’ve been complaining for a lot of years that, until they got a low-post scorer, they were not going win anything. Now, they got one in (Enes) Kanter. He can dominate down low. They can put him on the floor with (Serge) Ibaka and those other two boys. And you got (Steven) Adams coming in, you got (Mitch) McGary coming in. Man, they are loaded. If Russell (Westbrook) and Kevin Durant can stay healthy…”
It’s not wise to take Barkley’s predictions on face value, seeing as he has mostly been proven wrong in the past.
