Celine Dion’s husband Rene Angelil died of cancer on Thursday. The 73-year-old who was also the manager of the singer for years had been battling throat cancer for a long time. Celine Dion paid a tribute to her late husband in the most emotional way.
A representative said, “René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer,” adding, “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the; more details will be provided at a later time.”
Celine Dion cancelled her performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday and Sunday. She also mentioned that she will not be resuming work until February 23. Dion said in an emotional statement on Facebook that her husband lost a “long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy.”
Celine Dion’s husband was dedicated to her since she was 12. Rene was twice divorced at that time. He mortgaged his home in 1981 to fund Celine’s first record La voix du bon Dieu. The couple announced their romance in 1993. They completed 21 years of marriage.
During March last year, Celine Dion mentioned that he was not able to eat. “He can’t use his mouth. He can’t eat so I feed him. He’s got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day. I do this myself. So I feed my husband, then I feed my kids.”
Celine Dion’s husband was suffering from cancer since 1999.
