Stana Katic would not be in the show “Castle” should it proceeds for a ninth season. Co- star Tamala Jones would also be exiting the show.
This was a decision made by the ABC and ABC Studios, as confirmed by Variety. ABC stated, “Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series ‘Castle’ for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship.” She starred as Detective Kate Beckett in the long-time running show opposite lead star Nathan Fillion as Rick Castle. She signed for a one- year contract last year.
Deadline asked Katic regarding her departure from the show and she said, “Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
ABC also said in a statement they are grateful that Tamala Jones was a part of the show and that she has been an integral part of its series. Jones who starred as the medical examiner Lanie Parish said, “I will greatly miss the cast and crew. It’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people.”
She thanked ABC for the opportunity, as well to the unwavering support of her fans. She said, “It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”
Fillion was the only cast who had on-and-off talks with the studio since the year began. None of the other cast members were given indication about their future on the show although there had been rumors that Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas were to return the show with Fillion.
