‘Captain America: Civil War’ Director Says Robert Downey As ‘Iron Man’ Is Irreplaceable
Joe Russo, American film and television director, said Robert Downey is the perfect actor to play Iron Man. No one can replace Downey because he owned the role.Advertisement
Speaking with Forbes, Russo literally gushed about the actor’s performance. “It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, he’s the biggest movie star in the world. One close up from Robert is worth another actor’s entire performance, he’s incredibly gifted and insanely talented,” he said.
He added that when the time comes when Downey will not be portraying the superhero anymore, another “Iron Man” will be impossible to do. “I think if and when he is done with the character I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while,” he explained.
The only way for an “Iron Man” movie to be made again is if enough time has passed. “I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it,” he said.
The director added that fans can entertain themselves with other superheroes other than Iron Man when the time comes. “There are so many characters in the Marvel universe that can pick up the ball and run without it through the next phase or two before you need to see Iron Man again, frankly,” he explained.
Fortunately, as reported by Examiner Gazette, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) already has several movies lined up focusing on other superheroes as well. The lineup includes “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Thor: Ragnarok.”
As previously reported by USA Today, Downey himself thinks “Iron Man 4” will not happen. Downey thinks it’d be a great idea, but he admitted he doesn’t think that the film will be able to see daylight. “In a way it’s Cap 3, but for me, it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through, for the reason that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes,” the actor said.
Before fans worry, the A-list actor is not bound to disappear from the limelight soon. He is set to make his seventh appearance in a Marvel movie with the highly-anticipated “Captain America: Civil War.“ The movie will be released in theaters May, He also going to take part in the two-part movie, “Avengers: Infinity War.”
