Caitlyn Jenner Reacts To Anti-LGBT Bathroom Law
“I am Cait” star Caitlyn Jenner reacted to the Anti- LGBT Bathroom Law. This law banned the LGBT community from using any public restroom opposite the gender they were born with, sparking outrage from the LGBT community.Advertisement
The transgender star formerly known as Bruce Jenner addressed an issue regarding the use of public bathrooms by gays, bisexuals, and transgenders. In a report by E! News, North Carolina was the first state that prohibits transgenders from using a public bathroom opposite from the sex they were born with. This had triggered bands like Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen to cancel their concerts in the said area. Even a major business like Paypal cancelled their planned projects in the area.
In Mississippi, a similar law which was signed this month also caused debates about the privacy and safety of transgenders and non- transgender patrons in public and work restrooms. Both law sparked outcries and debates from both LGBT community and LGBT supporters.
In Jenner’s website, Caitlyn Jenner, she began her statement by saying that she had spent a lot of time thinking on what these “harmful bills” imply to all, most especially, to the transgender youths in the places where these laws are enacted. She cited in her website that “New bills targeting LGBT people are now being debated in Tennessee and South Carolina, and on the horizon in Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington state.”
She also stated that there were no laws that protects the LGBT people from discrimination, thus, “the LGBT community has to fight for those protections state-by-state, county-by-county, and city-by-city just to be able to live their lives free from discrimination.”
She also stated that the LGBT’s won over nondiscrimination protection in Houston, Texas and Charlotte, North Carolina, however, it was nullified. She said that these “bathroom bills” were only constructed to make it impossible for transgender people to simply live everyday.
She also wanted the people to listen to the stories of any transgender they know of. And she stated to look for her friend, Mara Kiesling’s website and the National Center for Transgender Equality for anti- LGBT laws introduced in any place. Their websites also included some steps to take for defeat a bill against LGBT.
