‘Bromance’ Blossoms: Vladimir Putin Loves Donald Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin praises Republican presidential hopeful, Donald Trump. A rough translation of the adjectives used by the Moscow leader is bright and dazzling. The White House aspirant said he was honored.Advertisement
Elsewhere in the news, Mr. Putin was quoted as saying that he described Trump as a very flamboyant man, very talented, adding that there is no doubt about that. “It is not our business to judge his merits, it’s up to the voters of the United States.”
Mr. Putin held his annual press conference on Thursday. He went on saying that Trump is an absolute leader of the presidential race. “He says that he wants to move to another level relations, a deeper level of relations with Russia. How can we not welcome that? Of course, we welcome it,” he said.
Mother Jones on the other hand sought the expertise of LA Times reporter Michael Hiltzik in speaking the Russian language. He noted that Mr. Putin used the words “yarkom chelovekom” which can mean clear, dazzling and bright.
“You sometimes hear Russians using the term to denote the bright sky of a bracing, clear morning,” Hiltzik said. He said that Mr. Putin was not driving at describing Trump as brilliant. “Outstanding is a pretty lazy translation,” he said, while “very colorful is downplaying the real meaning,” he added. “Bright personality captures the meaning, but not the idiomatic tone, of the word. I’d go with something vivid,” Hiltzik concluded.
Essentially, Mr. Putin said that Trump has a vivid personality, which he really is. Nevertheless, Trump said he was honored. In a statement obtained by Reuters, he said that “it is always a great honor to be so nicely complimented by a man so highly respected within his own country and beyond.”
He also took the opportunity to promote his anti terrorism policy, saying “I have always felt that Russia and the United States should be able to work well with each other towards defeating terrorism and restoring world peace, not to mention trade and all of the other benefits derived from mutual respect.”
