Four people survived the Brazilian soccer team plane crash that took the lives of 71 people. Now, Ivan Carlos Agnoletto, a journalist who survived the crash talks about how circumstance prevented him from boarding the ill-fated flight.
The Lamia 2933 flight was carrying the Brazilian football team Chapecoense when it crashed on Monday. Only six of the 77 passengers survived the crash that happened near Medellin, Colombia.
Last minute changes prevented four other passengers from boarding the ill-fated flight.
According to CNN, another four people were due to board the plane when it departed. However, last minute changes prevented them from doing so saving them from a tragic death.
One of them is journalist Ivan Carlos Agnoletto who opted to give up his seat for his colleague. Agnoletto revealed that he gave his seat to fellow journalist Gelson Galliotto, who had always dreamed of covering such a huge game.
“I was scheduled to cover the game, but my colleague had a huge dream to cover an international final” said Agnoletto. “When I told Gelson Galiotto the news that he could go in my place, he could not believe it: ‘Really? I’m really going?’ It was his dream,” he added.
Agnoletto was unaware of the crash until his wife received calls of condolences.
According to ABC, Agnoletto did not even know about the crash until his wife received a barrage of calls regarding the Brazilian soccer team plane crash. The people who did not know about Agnoletto and Galiotto’s arrangement were offering their condolences believing that he was dead. “The pain is still too much for me to think about if God would’ve saved me,” he said.
The preliminary inquiries regarding the crash revealed that “irregularities” were found with the plane. Nevertheless, the flight was given the green light to depart which resulted in the deaths of 71 people.
This new revelation has prompted many to question if the tragedy could have been averted saving the lives of the team. For now, investigations is still ongoing on the true cause of the Brazilian soccer team plane crash.
