After Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her husband Brad Pitt it was rumored that the actor committed suicide shortly after. The “Tomb Raider” actress 41 filed for divorce from her husband of two years earlier this week.
The news about Brad Pitt’s alleged suicide was circulated on the Internet. It was thanks to a Facebook message claiming that Pitt, whose split from wife Angelina Jolie had just been announced, had died by committing suicide.
The news alleged that Pitt, a multi-awarded American actor and husband of Jolie, shot himself in the head at a shooting range on Sunday. According to sources, the actor was under stress because the couple “were going through a divorce and he had a history of depression.”
The fans of the star were taken for a ride as the news appeared to come from Fox News. But, when the readers clicked on it, gave permission to a pop-up and were redirected to a fake news story about the actor’s alleged death.
This message was a malicious hoax aimed at stealing personal information from Facebook profiles of users. And, clicking the link resulted in a permission request from a dubious app to access the user’s profile.
However, Brad Pitt did not die in a shooting range suicide as claimed by several web sites, Snopes reports. The same web site in reported that Angelina Jolie committed suicide August, which was obviously a hoax death story.
Is Angelina Jolie now regretting her decision to divorce from soon to be ex husband Brad Pitt? The actor tweeted the same day asking the media for privacy for his kids.
It has become a trend among hackers to kill a celeb to create frenzy among their fans and to make the news viral. Celebs like Jaden Smith, Sylvester Stallone, Miley Cyrus, Vin Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey and John Cena are some of the actors killed by the Internet.
