A man was randomly stabbed during the screening of a movie in a Santa Rosa theater on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as 21-year-old Adam Lucero, sustained life-threatening wounds. The incident occurred during the screening of the movie, “The Shallows.”
“The victim was sitting watching the movie in one row and the suspect was behind him a couple seats away,” Santa Rosa Police Captain Rainer Navarro said. “About 10 minutes into the movie, the suspect stood up, walked to the victim, bent over and began stabbing him in the upper body and neck region multiple times.”
As reported by KRON 4, the suspect was found in the Prince Memorial Greenway and taken into custody by the officers. The arrest came minutes after the first call of the incident was received.
The weapon used to stab the victim was a long kitchen knife. It had penetrated deep, almost costing Lucero his life. He was subsequently taken to the hospital with multiple life threatening wounds. He is expected to survive.
“It was completely out of nowhere. The victim did not do anything to provoke it, and the two men did not know each other,” Navarro said.
As reported by New York Daily News, the suspect has been identified as Delonte Anthony Hart, who has been living in the Santa Rosa area for the last four months as a transient.
“The suspect walked into the theater, and just before the movie started, he appeared to be acting a little strange. Some witnesses noticed he was looking around and acting strange, and they actually moved away from him,” Navarro said.
After the stabbing, the second floor was sealed off. The weapon was discovered in a trash receptacle close to the doors of the theater, according to Navarro.
Hart was being held on a $1 million bail at Sonoma County Jail.
