Ben Simmons: The Next LeBron James (Watch Documentary)
Ben Simmons, the Australian prodigy, is set to take the basketball world by storm next summer. The LSU freshman has already drawn comparisons to LeBron James for his freakish athleticism and unique passing ability.Advertisement
Simmons is expected to go No 1 overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. Magic Johnson, the Lakers legend, compared the upstart forward to one of the game’s greats. “LSU’s Ben Simmons is the best all around player I’ve seen since LeBron James came out of high school straight to the NBA!,” Johnson tweeted after Simmons’ LSU defeated John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats a few nights ago.

According to Johnson, Simmons could instantly change the fortunes of a team. “Whatever team selects Ben Simmons, will be getting a player that will have an immediate impact on their squad!”
Simmons could end up sporting a Lakers jersey later this year. At this stage of the season, the Lakers have the second best shot (after Philadelphia 76ers) to land the first overall draft pick. However, if the draft lottery doesn’t go their way, the Lakers stand to lose their first-round pick since it is top-3 protected. If the basketball gods smile upon the Lakers, their fortunes could change next season.
After choosing LSU as his preferred university, Simmons is registering eye-popping numbers this season. Simmons averages 20.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks. While his perimeter shooting is still not up to mark, Simmons’ post-up game and ability to get physical in the paint suggest that he is already ready for the big leagues.
Simmons has led LSU (9-5, 2-0 SEC) to the top of the SEC Standings. The 6-foot-10 Australian — who led Florida’s Montverde Academy to three national titles — is the consensus top pick in June’s draft.
