Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan may have appeared OK in front of the camera, but what was going on backstage at “Live! With Kelly and Michael” was a different story, and Bellamy Young had some revelations.
On Tuesday, the 46-year-old “Scandal” star shared that she could feel “tension” between the two hosts before they got on stage, People reported.
“They were tense, bless their hearts,” she told Jenny McCarthy of Sirius XM’s “Dirty, Sexy, Funny” after she appeared on the ABC ow of 45-year-old Kelly Ripa and 44-year-old Michael Strahan.
“Backstage there was some tension because it could have gone any way but once it got underway it was beautiful,” she added.
Amid the tension, though, the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series winner pointed out that the hosts remained professional.
“Kelly gave a monologue, she got to clear the air and then they went on,” she narrated. “They’re professional people.”
Bellamy Young continued to disclose that when the hosts were not yet onstage, they were not talking to each other. However, this seemed different when they were already on their way to face the camera – they were already seen walking hand-in-hand.
“It was sort of separate,” she dished about what she observed behind the stage of Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan’s “Live! With Kelly and Michael” talk show. “Then everybody went out and the show started, and everybody remembers that we’re grownups and we have jobs and we do our jobs.”
Meanwhile, the network announced a few hours after the said episode with Bellamy Young, which marked the return of Ripa, that Strahan will already bid farewell by May 13 to prepare him for “Good Morning America,” according to E! News.
“After meeting with the producers of both ‘Live’ and ‘Good Morning America,’ and after speaking with Kelly and Michael, we have decided on a plan that best advantages both shows for the future,” a spokesperson of the show reportedly divulged.
“To that end, Michael’s last day on Live will be on Friday, May 13, which not only give the show the chance to have a nice send-off for him during the May book, but to also immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host.”
