Belgium and Italy will try to send a message to the rest of the field why they are considered among the favorites to win the title this year when they open their campaign on Monday. The Belgium vs Italy Euro 2016 match, which will the second fixture in Group E, will take place at Stade de Lyon.


Belgium, who is ranked second in the world behind powerhouse Argentina, are projected to win Group E and move at least to the semis of the tournament. Belgium coach Marc Wilmots will once again rely on his young but experienced squad bannered by Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Dries Mertens, Axel Witsel and Thibaut Courtois.

De Bruyne and Hazard led Belgium during their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, netting five goals apiece, while Mertens had three. Lukaku failed to score during the qualification round but already has 15 goals in 45 international appearances for the highest-ranked European country in the world.

Meanwhile, Italy are expected to go all out, as they are determined to prove their doubters back home wrong. The Italians have made it no secret they were surprised with the composition of the team, Bleacher Report revealed.

However, Azzurri boss Antonio Conte is confident of his defensive line composed of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. Graziano Pelle and Eder are their biggest scoring threats, with the two forwards scoring three and two goals, respectively, during the qualification round.

Fans should gear up for an action-packed match between two of the best national football teams in the world. Italy’s defense is expected to force Belgium to make a lot in-game adjustments on Monday, but the second-ranked team in the world will likely escape with a narrow win. Belgium 2-1.
