“Bates Motel” Season 5 will take fans through a roller coaster ride as it shows unexpected twists and turns. The entry of Chick (Ryan Hurst) into Norman’s (Freddie Highmore) life is one of those twist.
What role will Chick exactly play in the scheme of things? Will he be Norman’s friend or foe?
Entertainment Weekly may have provided a glimpse of Chick’s character, as he inadvertently rouses Norman from his mourning in the season 4 finale.
As Norman looks into the glassy eyes of his deceased mother Norma (Vera Farmiga), Chick appears at the Bates’ doorstep and in his creepy voice says, “You understand that she’s dead, right?”
Not expecting to see Chick, Norman panics and doesn’t let him enter the house.
Chick may have gotten into Norman’s skin, as he breaks down after the huge, bespectacled man leaves.
In an interview with Variety, “Bates Motel” executive producer Kerry Ehrin gave a preview of the mysterious character and his possible role in the young boy’s life.
“One never knows if Chick is friend or foe to anyone,” Ehrin noted. “He’s just this great character who’s emotionally detached and can observe and at the same time, present empathy and be emotionally cut off.”
The showrunner believes that Chick’s may eventually become invaluable to Norman, as he is not the type of a person who will necessarily judge him,
She continued: “He knew Norma’s body was in the living room. He assessed the situation, and looked at how Norman was grieving and suffering and was like, ‘I get what this kid is doing and I’m not going to bug him about it. I’m going to leave my casserole, and I’ll check in on him later.’”
“He’s an amazingly fun character,” she added. “Bates Motel” Season 5 is scheduled to air in the first months of 2017.
