‘Avatar 2′ Release Date Delayed, Pitted Against ‘Star Wars 8’
Avatar 2 release date has been delayed. The movie, the first of many sequels of the 2009 blockbuster, Avatar, will not be ready before Christmas 2017. “Star Wars 8” will also be around at the same time.Advertisement
There is no new Avatar 2 release date confirmed by the studio. Avatar 2 is to be directed by James Cameron. No word has been given on the other two sequels of the movie, though they are expected to be out during the holiday corridor of 2018 and 2019. If Avatar 2 is not released in 2017, there may be more delays.
Fox had previously planned to release the movie in 2017. While sources confirmed that there is a delay, nobody spelt out the reasons. Avatar 2 release date was previously set in Christmas 2016. It has now been delayed twice.
The shift in release dates has become a recent trend in the industry. “Star Wars 8” is shifted from Memorial Day 2017 to December 15, 2017. If Avatar 2 sticks to the Christmas date, it will be just a week of a gap between the two.
The sequels of Avatar will be shot in New Zealand. However, no filming date is finalized for the movies. James Cameron and Jon Landau will be co-producing the movies. No more progress is made yet.
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were signed for the trilogy back in 2014. The plot will be set on the moon and underwater. The studio is still planning on the release date, and nothing is on paper yet.
The Avatar 2 release date may clash with some other big banner movies, too. Will it be possible for Walt Disney to compete with the popularity? Stay tuned as we bring their take on the matter.
