Roger Federer clinched his 300th win on a rain-interrupted Friday at the Rod Laver Arena. The World No 3 defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the third round to advance to the next stage of the tournament.

Only Czech Republic-born Martina Navratilova is in front of the Swiss maestro now. Navratilova has won 306. Bulgarian Dimitrov came back from behind to win the third set. Federer took the first set 6-4 in 48 minutes. He continued his dominance in the second set, winning it 6-3.

Dimitrov displayed his merit in the third set by outsmarting the Swiss master 6-1. But Federer used all his experience to win the fourth set in the rain-drenched turf. The 34-year-old Federer becomes the oldest person to reach the round of 16 in the Australian Open. Previously, Andre Agassi held the record.

If Federer goes all the way to win the title for the fifth time, he will join Novak Djokovic and Roy Emerson. Federer won here in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010.
