“Assassin’s Creed,” 20th Century Fox’s adaptation of the hugely popular video game franchise about a group of assassins has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette. The two and a half minute video tells the story and the vision behind the film and includes both scenes from production and the film itself.
According to Comicbook, the short clip describes the Assassins and their Templars. Historically both of these groups originated from the Crusades and are now taking their rivalry in the 16th century.
Actor Michael Fassbender, the Assassins are fighting for free will and the Templars are trying to advance humankind through science. The film pits both groups against each other in Spain during the Inquisition.
Director Justin Kurzel says “Assassin’s Creed” has a really deep concept and idea, which is going back into time and having some sort of relationship with the ancestor that’s come before you. The journey of the film is through the eyes of Michael Fassbender’s character.
Using revolutionary technology that can unlock genetic memories, Fassbender’s character Callum Lynch will go back in time to the Spanish Inquisition. He will discover that he is descended from a mysterious secret society known as the Assassins.
He will walk in the shoes of Aguilar, his ancestor from the 15th Century to gather information about the powerful Templar organization of the present day. He will gather considerable the knowledge and skills needed to take on the organization that is still hell-bent on humanity’s advancement through science.
After the successful worldwide release of the movie adaptation of Blizzard’s Warcraft, the movie is next film adaptation of a popular video game franchise to be released this year.
Boasting a bigger budget and a studio with tons of experience with mixing CGI animation and real life actors on screen, “Assassin’s Creed” is on its way to becoming a box office success.
