Asian Workers Warned Against Handsome Foreign Boyfriends

China’s first ever National Security Education Day was marked by a campaign called Dangerous Love, which warns female government workers to not be tricked by handsome foreign men who could turn out to be spies.

China’s first ever National Security Education Day was marked by a campaign called Dangerous Love, which warns female government workers to not be tricked by handsome foreign men who could turn out to be spies.

Celebrated on April 15, the National Security Education Day is observed to raise and spread awareness about national security in China. The campaign, which also had national events, included a 16-panel cartoon poster titled Dangerous Love.

As reported by ABC.net.au, the poster tells the story of Xiao Li, also referred to as Little Li, who is a young Chinese Civil servant. Introduced to a foreign man at a party, the two soon thereafter begin a relationship.

David, the foreign man, claims to be a visiting scholar, who says he requires secret internal documents from her office for completing his academic articles.

However, once the initially reluctant Li gives him the documents, he vanishes without a trace. Subsequently, Li is arrested and questioned; the police inform her about David’s reality, telling her he has been taken into custody.

The closing panel of the cartoon shows a handcuffed Li, sitting in front of two policemen who tell her that she has a “shallow understanding of secrecy for a state employee.”

“You are suspected of violating our nation’s law,” the police officers tell her.

The poster, which aims to educate rank and file state employees about maintaining the secrecy of classified information and reporting any unusual spying activity to the state security agencies, appears on the government’s public bulletin boards, the Guardian noted.

The National Security Education Day was marked by speeches and promotional materials.
