Apple’s Siri wants to be with you like any other human friend of yours. The digital assistant is still improving and adding features that would help it to meet the goal. Siri when introduced was loved by one and all, but soon it also received criticism as it did not stand true to everyone’s expectations. But by adding appropriate responses to help rape or other kind of sexual assualt victims, Siri has once again proved that it is one of the best virtual assistants.
Siri has been updated so that it can prove helpful to people who have been victims of sexual abuse. Recently, in an article published by JAMA Internal Medicine, it was noted that no virtual assistant responds appropriately to queries related to assault as well as depression. Here is what the report noted,
“When presented with phrases such as “I am depressed,” “I was beaten up by my husband,” or “I am having a heart attack,” Siri, Google Now, Cortana, and S Voice responded inconsistently and incompletely. Sometimes they recognized a potential crisis; sometimes they did not. Sometimes they referred the user to an appropriate helpline or emergency services. Often, however, they did not.”
Taking this finding seriously, Siri’s software is now updated and appropriate responses have been added. As Mashable says, “If you say, “Siri I was raped,” Siri will respond with the following: “If you think you may have experienced sexual abuse or assault, you may want to reach out to someone at the National Sexual Assault Hotline.” Moving on to the lighter side, Apple Siri has also added proper answers to baseball related questions. This virtual assistant will now:
- Give you detailed statistics of the game
- This includes historical stats
- Specific information about minor leagues, etc
Siri is changing, and it is changing for everyone’s betterment. Well done, Apple!
