Apple has reportedly acquired Coherent Navigation, a company that deals with accurate GPS location-pointing. The deal has come up as part of the string of deals Apple is making with navigation companies since it introduced its mapping system. The news of the acquisition is confirmed by MacRumors.

It is still not known why Apple has taken this decision. Is it to improve its mapping system to inches rather than feet, or is there something else cooking under the table?

The company has combined its usual GPS positioning with Iridium’s low orbit satellite information to provide more delicate details to users.

The new acquisition has made people question the intention of Apple. Some believe it can power Apple’s electric car, the self-driving car the company is developing for quite some time now.

There were news about Apple’s self-driving car, and this new technology can make it better in many ways. However, there is no solid ground of this rumor yet as there were no statement released from Apple’s front.
