Sony Xperia owners know have an idea when their devices will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. If a purported screenshot from Europe is to be believed, the roll out will commence sometime next month.
The leak came from a recent Sony event in Slovakia. One audience member took a picture of a presentation slide which revealed the release schedule for the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
The Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ will be the first to receive the software update in October, the slide indicated. The Xperia X and Xperia X Compact will be next in November, as per Xperia Blog.
In December, the Android 7.0 Nougat update will release for the Xperia Z5 series, Xperia Z3+ and Z4 Tablet. The Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra will get the latest Android OS in early 2017.
Phone Arena noted that Sony already announced which devices will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, but the Japanese tech giant has yet to divulge an official release schedule.
The leak from Slovakia should be taken with a wee bit of salt. Mobile updates from Google tend to roll out unpredictably as opposed to following a strict time table.
There have been many occasions in the past in which software updates were delayed by weeks, even months at a time. The slide also failed to mentioned if the release schedule only applied to Slovakia, Europe or worldwide.
For older Xperia users out there who want to upgrade to Sony’s latest flagship model, the Xperia XZ is now available for preorder on Amazon. The 5.2-inch smartphone has a 1080×1920 resolution screen coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out the box, but an update to Android 7.0 Nougat is just around the corner. The device sports a 23-megapixel rear camera, a 13-megapixel wide-angle front shooter and a non-removable 2,900 mAh battery.
The blue and silver color options of the Xperia XZ costs $699.99 apiece while the black variant is worth $717.59. The next-gen Sony smartphone will release on October 2, 2016.
