Nougat, Google’s latest Android operating system will arrive on select Motorola devices later this year. The Illinois smartphone manufacturer recently announced the lucky handsets that will eventually boot the seventh major version of Android.


Android 7.0 Nougat officially launched on August 22, 2016. Nexus devices were the first to receive the software content.

It was only a matter of time before other OEM’s got their hands on Android 7.0 Nougat. This week, Motorola unveiled the full list of smartphones that will be compatible with the sugary update. They are as follows:

The roll out will commence on Q4 2016. Motorola stated that Moto Z and Moto G (4th Gen) owners will be the first to download and install the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

In addition to the system-wide performance boost, the Android 7.0 Nougat update adds a new Settings menu and redesigned notifications shade. There is support for Quick app switching and split-screen view, Android Authority reported.

Doze is more efficient this time around. The power saver tool which was first introduced on Android 6.0 Marshmallow can now save battery juice even while users are on the go. Apps will sync only during predetermined times.

A new feature called Data Saver prevents apps from over-using the monthly cellular data limit. When a data threshold is reached, certain apps can only be used when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Andrew Williams of Trusted Reviews applauded Android 7.0 Nougat for its enhanced drop-down menu, new multitasking features and Vulkan support. The Vulkan 3D rendering API provides higher graphics performance and greater control over the smartphone’s GPU.
