The developer preview of Android 7.1 Nougat will arrive on the latest Nexus devices and Pixel C tablet later this month. Other Android devices will have to wait a little longer.
Smartphone manufacturers are still busy modifying Android 7.0 Nougat for their flagship models. Lenovo, in particular, said Android 7.0 Nougat with Vibe UI will be ready before the year ends.
According to Mobi Picker, the first Lenovo smartphones to run on the latest Android OS will be the K3 Note, K4 Note and K5 Note. Users of the said devices will be notified as soon as the software patch is available for download.
Other Lenovo handsets that are said to receive the sugary update are the Vibe Phab 2, Phab 2 Pro and Phab 2 Plus. Same goes for the Lenovo ZUK Z2 and ZUK Z2 Pro.
The ZUK Z1 won’t be getting Android 7.0 Nougat since it features the Snapdragon 801 processor. The over the air content is not compatible with devices running on Snapdragon 801 and 800.
Neuro Gadget speculated that Lenovo could follow its rollout schedule for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The software patch for Lenovo devices came out five months after Google released the first official version of the last-gen Android OS.
If that ends up being the case, Lenovo users will likely receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update as early as January next year. It will reach all compatible Lenovo devices in Q2 2017.
The Android 7.0 Nougat update brings a host of new features like split-screen, enhanced power efficiency and direct reply notifications. Additional functionalities include app switch, data saver, screen zoom and VR interface.
The software patch adds new emoji as well as improved language support for Java 8. Games will perform better on Android 7.0 Nougat since it is compatible with the Vulkan 3D API graphics.
