What's This?

Anderson Cooper, renowned CNN reporter, emanated from an American royalty family, being the son of Gloria Vanderbilt. However, his mother recently revealed he would not inherit anything from the Vanderbilt’s outrageous fortune.

During an interview, Anderson revealed that his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, one of the wealthiest royalties in New York and America, already revealed to him that he will not inherit anything from the family’s fortune while he was still a young boy.

Speaking with People, Anderson said he is privileged but not spoiled. He did not incur college loans but he certainly worked his way up to what he has now.

“I think my mom and dad both wanted to get across to me that… I obviously grew up with great privilege and was very lucky and was able to afford college and not have student loans and they would pay for college, but beyond that, it would be up to me to make a living,” he explained.

He added, “I was always very appreciative of that because I never – I always looked at people who inherited money and they never seemed to really accomplish much on their own and it seemed to sort of change the person they were.”

He went on and said, “I’m glad I never had that expectation hanging over me or that safety net to fall back on. I always thought, ‘I’m on my own and that’s the way it should be.’”

The Vanderbilt family fortune and Anderson’s inability to inherit was not the only thing revealed by Gloria during an interview with her son by her side.

As reported by ABC News, Vanderbilt recently confessed that she had a lesbian relationship while she was still 13 years old. She said, “When I went to [Miss Porter’s School in] Farmington, I went through a brief so-called lesbian relationship with a girl in school. Cynthia, her name was, and she came once to visit my aunt in New York on holiday. We had this sort of lesbian relationship and it felt so great.”

Gloria Vanderbilt is the great-great-great granddaughter of shipping mogul, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and she grew up with her aunt, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, when she was young. Anderson’s father, Wyatt Cooper, was said to be her fourth husband.

It was revealed that the reason behind Anderson Cooper not being able to inherit from the Vanderbilt fortune was his parents’ way of inspiring him to make means end with his own effort. There may be more to that story, but one thing’s for sure – Cooper has earned his way up on his own.
