Asus Launches the RT-AC87, the World’s Fastest Wireless Home Router
Asus has officially launched the RT-AC87 Dual-band Wireless-AC2400 Gigabit Router which the company initially previewed at CES 2014 earlier this year.
“As the number of wireless devices in the home increases, so does the importance of Wi-Fi quality. Our customers value high-performance Wi-Fi and know the importance of a reliable and fast wireless connection in order to stream bandwidth-intensive data. The RT-AC87 provides them with class leading performance, as well as incredible range and reliability,” said Margaret Chen, President of Open Platform Business (OPBG) Group for ASUS Computer International.
The RT-AC87, according to Asus, is the world’s first Wave 2 802.11ac consumer router and is also the world’s fastest router with speeds up to 1.73Gbps at the 5GHz band. The RT-AC87 is powered by Quantenna’s award-winning QSR1000 4×4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) chipset which allows the RT-AC87 to stream rich content to multiple devices simultaneously where older 802.11n and even 802.11ac routers could stream to only one device at a time. MU-MIMO also helps optimize the Wi-Fi network for consistent performance even when more and more devices are connected.
The new router also features four external antennas and Universal Beamforming to not only maximize range and performance even to older 802.11 a/b/g/n clients but to also reduce the signal-to-noise ratio and increase the reliability of the router’s signal. The RT-AC87 also comes with slew of other features including AiProtection for better security and network monitoring, the company’s ASUSWRT advanced web-based user interface, and ASUS AiCloud 2.0 that turns the RT-AC87 into the user’s own personal cloud server.
Lastly, the RT-AC87 is designed to work with a large array of products including adapters, media players, and even the latest gaming consoles the Xbox One and the Playstation 4.
The Asus RT-AC87 will be available in North America “shortly” at an estimated MSRP of $269.99. Asus did not mention whether the new router will be launched in other territories.
