Amal Clooney is the new scamstar? The human rights lawyer landed herself in deep trouble by cancelling her appearances at the Women World Changers Summit in Australia in October. She was scheduled to speak at the conference in Melbourne on Oct. 10 and then in Sydney on Oct.12.
People have paid a bomb to see the 38-year-old human rights lawyer. Some others went in for VIP tickets, which included meet-and-greet with Amal Clooney.
According to The Growth Faculty, standard tickets for the conference are priced at $895, $950 and $1200. Besides, VIP tickets for meet and greet with the lawyer is priced at $2,200.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports Amal Clooney pulled out of the Women World Changers Conference due to work commitments at The Hague. The LMA sent out emails to all the ticket holders that their star attraction will not attend on Thursday.
“We are writing to advise that The Growth Faculty has received notice that Amal Clooney has been called to hearings at The Hague over the conference dates and will not be available to attend the Women World Changers Summit in October,” the email reads.
The organizer of the conference Karen Beattie admitted the company has “started our search for a new ‘World Changer’.” She is the one who brought George Clooney, Amal’s Hollywood heartthrob husband, to Australia for a conference five years ago, IBT reported in June.
Waleed Aly, TV star is due to host the October conference event in Melbourne, while Indira Naidoo will be host in Sydney. Guests scheduled to attend the October event in Australia were not too happy with the announcement.
“I paid $825 to see Amal, not Waleed Aly,” said an irate ticket buyer, talking to Fairfax Media.
The event publicist Max Markson said: “The Growth Faculty has a full refund policy on its events too.” This is second big name guest speaker to pull out of an Australian conference aimed at empowering and inspiring women.
In June, Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon cancelled the Simpatico Conference that was priced at $1997 for a ticket.
