Air Jordan Release Dates 2016: AJ 14 Retro ‘Black Vivid Green’ & AJ 1 Retro Ulta ‘White & Black’ Price & Photos
Jordan Brand will release three new pairs of Air Jordan retros this weekend. Two of them pays homage to the Air Jordan 1, while the third pair is a modern version of the Air Jordan 14.Advertisement
The Air Jordan 1 is arguably the most iconic silhouette in the sneaker industry. That explains why it still sells like hotcakes 30 years since it first came out. The upcoming variants of the Air Jordan 1 retain the high-top look of its famous ancestor, but swap its antiquated materials with 21st century sneaker technology.
Nike indicated that the Air Jordan 1 Retro Ultra White and the Air Jordan 1 Retro Ultra Black sport a full textile upper and an internal bootie, which provides lightweight fit. Both colorways retain the thick white midsole and outsole of the original AJ 1.
At first glance, the shoe looks like a hybrid between Michael Jordan’s first signature sneaker and the recently-released LeBron Zoom Soldier 10. There are no straps on the upcoming AJ 1 model, but two exaggerated pull tabs adorn the collar of the shoe.
As for the new Air Jordan 14, it is officially called Retro Black/Vivid Green. The original AJ 14 released back in 1998 with ribbed leather overlays. The newer model features a tumbled leather upper.
The black upper is complimented with shades of green while the immaculate white midsole and outsole include aggressive black accents. The AJ 14 fittingly has fourteen Jumpman logos, seven for each shoe. They can be found on the shield, outsole, insole, heel, toe box and aglets of the shoe.
“Something that the retro did better than the original surprisingly is the quality of the synthetic suede that they used,” said sneaker expert Nightwing2303. “The material quality on the toe and the collar panels [on the AJ 14 Retro] is just a nicer suede than what they used on the OG.”
He added that the original AJ 14 used a rough long-haired synthetic suede, while the newer version sports a smooth short-haired synthetic suede.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro Ultra White and the Air Jordan 1 Retro Ultra Black will cost $150 in Men’s sizes. The Air Jordan 14 Retro Black/Vivid Green will be available in both Men’s and Kids’ sizes. Its price ranges from $140 to $190. All three pairs can be purchased via Nike’s SNKRS app starting this Saturday, August 13.
