Activision Launches Skylanders Trap Team, a Truly Multi-Platform Game
Activision has announced today that Skylanders Trap Team, the latest and fourth installment of their massively popular Skylanders franchise is now available on store shelves around the country for a whole range of platforms making it a truly multi-platform game.
The new games is available for all next- and previous-gen consoles including the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Wii, and Wii U, as well as the Nintendo 3DS handheld console. Additionally, Activision has innovatively made the full console experience of Skylanders Trap Team available on mobile platforms such as iOS, FireOS, and Android for a select number of devices including the iPad (3rd generation and higher), iPad Air, and iPad Mini (2nd generation), the Kindle Fire HDX, the 2013 version of the Nexus 7, and a slew of select Samsung Galaxy tab and Note devices.
“The Skylanders franchise was built on a foundation of creativity and innovation,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “And with Skylanders Trap Team, we’re taking that tradition of innovation to new heights. For the last three years we’ve allowed kids to bring their toys to life in a video game, and this year, we’re letting them reach into the game, and pull characters out into the physical world by letting players trap and play as the villains. Skylanders Trap Team is also the first console game to simultaneously bring the entire AAA experience to tablet devices. Overall, we think Skylanders Trap Team represents our most magical innovation yet. But most importantly, it’s just a great game.”
Skylanders Trap Team introduces new characters called Trap Masters, a new item called a ‘trap’ that allows players to trap and store up to forty-seven villians from the game for the players to control, and a new NFC interface device called the Traptanium Portal. Additionally, the new game also introduces Skylanders Minis which are miniature version of the regular Skylanders. For those who purchase and play the mobile version of the game, a Bluetooth-equipped Traptanium Portal is included with the Starter Kit for syncing with the mobile device.
The Skylanders franchise is, according to Activision and a report by the NPD, the top selling U.S. video game franchise in 2014.
