Acer Announces the R13 and R14 Convertible Laptops
Acer has announced, during the company’s press conference at IFA, two new high-end Windows 8.1 convertible notebooks, the Acer Aspire R13 and the Aspire R14.
Both the Aspire R13 and R14 feature different custom-designed hinges to convert into their different modes. The R13 uses what the company calls the Ezel Aero Hinge which allows the screen to be rotated up to 180 degrees on a hinged frame. This gives the R13 six different modes to work in including the standard Notebook Mode, a unique Ezel Mode, Stand Mode, Pad Mode, Tent Mode, and Display Mode. On the other hand, the R14 uses two specially-designed hinges that allow the display to be rotated up to 360 degrees. A design that’s incredibly similar to Lenovo’s Yoga line of convertible laptops which means the R14, like the Yoga, has four different modes including Notebook, Display, Tent, and Pad/Tablet mode.
The Acer Aspire R13’s rotatable display measures 13.3-inches and has a screen resolution of either 2560 x 1440 pixels (QWHD) or 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD). Additionally, while the QWHD screen version of the R13 only uses a TFT screen, the full HD version is equipped with an IPS display. Both variants support Zero Air Gap technology for improved color reproduction and reduced reflections. On the other hand, the Aspire R14 has only one variant with a relatively mediocre 14-inch 1366 x 768 pixel resolution display that also features Zer o Air Gap technology.
On the inside, the R13 will feature either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage while the R14 will feature Intel processors from the Pentium line up to the Core i7 line. It will also be capable of handling up to 12GB of RAM, and some R14 models will come with an NVidia GeForce 820M GPU.
The Acer Aspire R13 will be available sometime in October in the Pan America region at a starting price of $899 and in the EMEA and Asian regions in November at a starting price of 899 Euros. The Aspire R14 will come to both Pan American and European countries sometime in October at a price tag of $599 or 499 Euros.
