The two time Gold Derby Award winner submitted “Kimmy Gives Up!” episode from season 2 on the advice of Tina Fey. The actress is known for her experience in choosing episodes for Emmy submissions.
Tituss Burgess also revealed his reason in choosing the episode to The Daily Beast. He said, “[Tina Fey] she’s been doing this for a very long time. This is only my second go-around.” The actor also added that, “I kind of feel along with her that it’s complex on many levels, outside of the fact that I’m playing the piano and singing all the time. The comedy’s still there. The drama’s still there. And the drama is brought out of the fact that he’s happy, and that being happy terrifies him on so many levels. So I think that’s why we chose it.”
Tituss Burgess also received a nomination in 2015 by Critics Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, according to IMDb. Unfortunately, the actor lost the award to T.J. Miller from “Silicon Valley.”
Along with Burgess, Ellie Kemper has also been nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category. Furthermore, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” has also been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Burgeess will be competing against Andre Braugher from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” Matt Waish and Tony Hale from “Veep” as well as Ty Burrell from “Modern Family” and others.
While Tituss Burgess has been highly noted for his portrayal in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, predictions from ET Online suggest Tony Hale from Veep to win the award. Fans can find out themselves as the 68th Emmy awards will air on ABC on September 18th 5:00 PM PDT.
