This is the twelfth nomination for “Project Runway” in the category of “Outstanding Reality-Competition Program” in the 68th Emmy Awards.


Oddly enough, the reality show has never won an Emmy for this particular category over the last 11 years, despite winning Emmys in the category of “Outstanding Picture Editing For Reality Programming” (2009) and “Outstanding Host For a Reality Or Reality-Competition Program” (2013).

This time “Project Runway” is up against some pretty spectacular reality shows such as “American Ninja Warrior”, “Dancing With The Stars”, “The Amazing Race”, “The Voice” and “Top Chef”, reports Emmys.

“Project Runway”

“Project Runway” is a reality show designed to offer the big break to one exceptionally talented fashion designer every season, who gets the ultimate prize of showcasing his/her designs in front of a live audience (often comprising of the country’s whos who), in the New York Fashion Week.

The contestants have to go through strenuous challenges which test their skill, creativity, time management, innovation, teamwork and the ability to work under pressure and deadlines.

Their final designs produced by each contestant are judged by a panel of experienced judges like Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, reports AceShowBiz. They are occasionally joined by guest judges that keep on changing every week. Their decision is binding and final.

Based on their episodic performance, one or more contestants are eliminated every week at the end of the episode.

The show is hosted by renowned supermodel, Heidi Klum while Tim Gunn acts as a mentor to the contestants, encouraging them with positive reinforcement and bringing to the viewers all the action and struggles that go on behind the scenes of “Project Runway”.

It is a successfully running reality show that has already completed 15 seasons and has already been renewed for 3 more by the Lifetime network, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

Apart from Emmys, “Project Runway” has also won a Peabody Award in 2007.
